Sohagi Jahan TonuThe DNA report on the suspected killers of Sohagi Jahan Tonu, who was killed in Cumilla 27 months back, will be disclosed next week, police said.
The blood-stained body of the 19-year-old Cumilla Victoria Government College student, with her head smashed, was found inside Cumilla Cantonment on Mar 20, 2016.
The Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, Jalal Uddin said, “We have re-interrogated many suspects for the sake of the case.
“We will receive the DNA report on several suspects in next week”, said Jalal Uddin, who is a Senior Assistant Superintendent of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Meanwhile, family of the slain girl expressed dissatisfaction over the delay of investigating the case.
Anwara Begum, mother of the slain girl, said, “Names of the real killers will be revealed if army Sergeant Zahid and her wife are arrested, because Tonu was killed after she had gone to tutor her student at their home.
“But, the CID has taken a dilly-dally approach in the case as already 27 months have gone,” lamented the mother.
The murder of Tonu inside a heavily-guarded army base caused uproar in different parts of the country.
Family and relatives suspected she had been raped and killed.
On Mar 26, the report of Tonu’s autopsy had ruled out rape without explaining the cause of the death.
On Mar 30, a court ordered to exhume the body and conduct a second autopsy at the CMCH.
On Apr 1, 2016, the case was transferred to CID as the local police and the Detective Brach failed to make headway.
The CID later said DNA samples of three persons found on Tonu’s body confirm rape before murder.
Since then, the CID did not disclose any details on the DNA matching test.
