Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said traffic gridlock would not be created due to bad conditions of roads during Eid journey.

He made the comment Staurday noon while attending a preparatory meeting at BRTA premises at Elenbari in the capital.

He said I want to assure you that like the last year, traffic gridlock won’t be created on highways during Eid journey. The problem of three bridges (Kachpur, Daudkandi and Buriganga Bridges) will remain until December. Moreover, Eid journey might be affected a little due to construction works at Dhaka-Elenga highway. But I have instructed to stop the work during Eid. In addition, I have also instructed to stop digging on several roads.”

Hoping that gridlock will not be created due to road condition of roads, the minister said, “To ensure uninterrupted flow of vehicles on the highways we are continuously monitoring everything, so that people do not suffer.”

Ensuring that he himself would be present if problem arises anywhere, Obaidul said, “We have appointed adequate forces on the highways.”

“A number of 54 BRTC buses will be kept stand by at Tongi, Gabtoli and Mahakhali depot, to be used whenever situation demands,” he added.

He observed that we have to change our mentality over some aspects in order to bring discipline on the roads, otherwise it would be very tough.
