An alleged drug peddler was killed in a ‘gunfight’ at Kushtia Sadar Upazila.
The incident was reported from the sadar upazila’s Bhadalia Sastipur early on Friday (Apr 26).
The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Rafique Uddin, said Kushtia Model police OC Nasir Uddin.
“The police was tipped that a gunfight was going on between two group of drug peddlers,” OC Nasir said.
He said that the the drug peddlers opened fire at the law enforcers when a Kushtia Model police team along with a Detective Branch of police team reached the scene when.
“The drug peddlers retreated after almost half an hour of shooting,” he saod.
Nasir said that at the end of the gunfight, Rafique’s bullet-ridden body was recovered from the scene and taken to Kushtia General Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
He added that there were several cased filed against Rafiqul under the Narcotics Act.
