Quader’s 10-point measures to ease Dhk-Ctg Highway traffic

Obaidul Quader (File Photo)Road Transport Minister Obaidul Quader has instructed the authorities concerned to take coordinated steps to reduce traffic on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway on Sunday (May 27).
The Minister also put 10 directives to ease traffic jam on the highway.
In a meeting held at the Feni Circuit House, Quader said that ten steps should be taken during the Eid holidays to ease traffic and sufferings of the people.

  1. No road repairing 10 days ahead and 5 days after the Eid-ul-Fitr.
  2. Ban on plying heavy vehicle on highways three days ahead and after Eid.
  3. Necessary measures to be taken by Bangladesh Road and Transport Authority to stop plying unfit vehicles.
  4. Halting construction works of important highways 7 days before and after Eid.
  5. Strictly monitoring parking and passenger boarding and getting off here and there with law enforcement agencies taking stern action.
  6. Arranging additional two days leave for garment workers.
  7. Presence of adequate number of highway police to ensure safe journey of the home going people.
  8. Maintaining discipline in important intersections and entry points of Dhaka and Chattogram.
  9. Controlling wrong side driving to vehicular movement normal.
  10. Keeping the fixed amount available to pay toll.

Instructing to slap fines for driving on wrong lane, Quader said, “No one can do it, even ministers, MPs or VIPs. Penalise, even if it’s me.”
