Representational image. Photo/India.comTwo suspected rapists have been arrested after a mother and daughter were gang-raped in Shibpur Upazila of Narsingdi.
The women said they were sexually assaulted by six men on Friday.
The arrestees are Delowar Hossain, 30 and Shafiq, 25.
Shibpur Model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Kalam Azad confirmed the incident.
Relatives of the victims said five female members of the same family, including the mother and daughter, were returning home to Habiganj by bus via the Dhaka-Sylhet highway on Friday.
The bus came to a halt near the Sristighar bus stand in Shibpur. At this point, six local criminals, including the two that were arrested by the police later, coaxed the mother-daughter to go with them, promising to help them board another bus that would take them home.
The men then forced them into an abandoned jute mill and took turns raping them.
When the women started screaming, the rapists made a quick getaway. The two women then went back to Sristighar bus stand and disclosed the incident to the locals.
Police arrested two of the alleged rapists later that night who then confessed to the crime.
OC Abul Kalam said the mother filed a case against six people involved in the horrific crime.
“The two arrestees were sent to court on Saturday. The rape survivors were sent to Narsingdi Sadar hospital for medical examinations.
“We are trying to locate and detain the four other suspects,” the OC added.
