This undated photo shows the entrance of Jhenaidah Sadar HospitalFourteen doctors of Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital have been served with show-cause notices due to their negligence in performing duties.

The doctors are said to show up and leave the hospital whenever they please.

The show-cause notices were signed on Thursday (Mar 15) by Civil Surgeon Dr Rasheda Sultana as the hospital’s supervisor is on a leave.

The doctors have been asked to respond to the show cause notices within three days of receiving those, said the hospital’s spokesperson Md Moshiur Rahman.

According to sources, the 14 doctors do not show up at work on time and leave the hospital before their duty officially ends prompting the show-cause notices.

The doctors, served with notices are – Senior Consultant ASM Abdul Rahman, ENT specialist Rashed Ali Morol, Cardiologist Golam Rabbani, Orthopedics specialist Gazi Ahsan Ul Munir, Surgery specialist Jahidur Rahman and Tarikh Akter Khan, Gynecologist Chalantika Rani, Child specialist Anowarul Islam, Endodontist Omar Khaiyam, Orthopaedics specialist Dr Shah Alam Prince, Medical Officer Shahin Dhali, Falguni Rani, Imamul Haque and Humayun Shahed.

Dr Shahed among the bunch received show cause for being absent without granted leave.

The patients allege that the most of the doctors do not show up at work although the scheduled time is from 8am to 2:30pm. Ofter the doctors leave the hospital during the Zuhr’s call for prayer to see patients at their private chambers or clinics.

They further allege that many specialist doctors do not perform the routine round although they are supposed to do that every night.

Hospitals Resident Medical Officer Dr Apurba Kumar, however, said, “The patients’ allegations are not all true. Other than a few, specialist doctors routinely perform daily rounds.”

However, he agreed that Medicine and Surgery departments’ doctors visit when they are called.

Civil Surgeron Sultana, who issued the notices, said, “Their failure to show up at work on time and leaving the hospital ahead of shcheduled time prompted the show-cause notices.”

“Measures will be taken after receiving their responses,” she added.
