Shootout

Eight more alleged drug dealers were killed Wednesday night in the country raising the total number of casualties in law enforcers’ war against drug dealers to 40 in less than a week.
All those ‘drug dealers’ were killed in identically similar ‘shootouts’ when dealers first opened fire on lawmen after midnight, got killed when the police or RAB personnel fired back in retaliation.
On Wednesday night, two were killed in Cumilla, two each in Magura and Feni, and one each in Brahmanbaria and Narayanganj.
In all cases district police confirmed the news.
Our Cumilla correspondent reports, two enlisted ‘drug traders’ named Babul (38) and Rajib (26) were killed in two separate ‘gunfights’ with police on Wednesday midnight.
Babul, son of late Hafez Ahmed, was killed at Amangonda area under Chouddogram Upazila and Rajib, son of late Shah Alam, at Goalmothon area under Dakkhin Sadar.
Chouddogram thana Officer-in-Charge Abu Faisal a group of drug dealers opened fire on a team of police after they reached the spot. Babul died when police also fired back in response.
Three police members were also injured, he added.
Rajib was killed in a similar ‘shootout’ when his accomplices opened fire on a police patrol team at dead of night on Wednesday, and the police responded accordingly, injuring Rajib seriously.
Sadar Dokkhin Model thana OC Md Nazrul Islam said, “The duty doctors declared him dead after Rajib was rushed to Cumilla Medical College Hospital. There are 13 cases filed against him.”
Our Magura correspondent reports, police recovered bodies of two ‘drug dealers’ from Parnanduali Housing area in the district town. They were killed during a clash between two groups of ‘drug dealers’.
The deceased have been identified as Aiyub Hossain (50) and Mizanur Rahman Kalu (46).
Assistant Police Super of Magura, Chayer Uddin, said, “The two were killed over in a clash over sharing money earned from drug business. On Information, police went to the spot in the early morning and recovered their bodies.”
Our Narayanganj correspondent reports, an alleged drug dealer named Salim (32), son of Abul Kashem, was killed and six police officials were injured in a ‘gunfight’ between police and drug dealers at the wee hours of Thursday at South Nimaisari area under Siddhirganj thana in the district.
A locally-made revolver and five bottles of contraband Phensydil have been recovered from the spot, said Siddhirganj police.
Our Feni correspondent reports, two ‘drug peddlers’ were killed in a so-called gunfight with police on Wednesday midnight at Anandapur-Jamura road under Fulgazi thana in the district, injuring eight police personnel.
The deceased have been identified as Majnu Mia, son of Mostafa Hossain, and Shamim, son of Fatik Mia, said Fulgaji thana OC Humayun Kabir.
Both of the deceased has 10 cases each filed against them, he added.

Our Brahmanbaria correspondent reports, an alleged drug dealer named Amir Khan was killed in a similar so-called gunfight at 2:00 am on Thursday Bangaj Steel Bridge under Dhorkhar union at Akhaura Upazila in the district.
Akhaura thana OC Mosharraf Hossain said, “Amir Khan and his accomplices opened fire on a police patrol team after they reached the area on information.”
“Police also fired back in retaliation, killing Amir on the spot, he added.
