Cox`s BazarAn alleged Rohingya robber has been killed in Cox’s Bazar in what the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) described as ‘shootout’.

The incident was reported from Domdomia area in the district’s Teknaf Upazila around 5am on Friday (Feb 22), said RAB.

The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Nurul Alam.

“Some miscreants opened fire on a patrol team of RAB when the law enforcing members challenged them at Domdomia area early on Friday. In self-defence, RAB had to fire back which triggered the shootout,” said Cox’s Bazar RAB-15 Company Commander Maj Mehedi Hasan.

“Most of the miscreants were managed to flee from the scene leaving one injured on the spot. He died on the way to hospital,” he added.

“Later, the deceased was identified as Nurul Alam, a Rohingya robber, and the prime accused in a case filed over the murder of Ansar Commander Ali Hossain,” added Hasan.

“The body has been handed over to Teknaf police for autopsy, added the elite force member.

An alleged Rohingya robber gang, led by Nurul Alam, carried out an attack on an Ansar camp guarding the Nayapara Rohingya refugee camp late on May 12 in 2015. During the attack, they killed Ansar Commander Ali Hossain and looted 13 firearms along with 600 rounds of bullets from the camp arsenal.
