Shootout kills four in two districtsSeparate ‘gunfights’ killed three ‘drug peddlers’ in Jashore and a murder suspect in Mymensingh on Saturday.
The incident in Jashore was reported from Abhaynagar Upazila around 3:20am, said the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
According to local RAB-6 chief Lt Col Jahid Hasan, three men on a motorbike opened fire at one of their security check-post on the Payra-Noapara Road, when the law enforcers asked to stop them.
The RAB retaliated, when the trio were shot and taken to the local hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
Describing the victims as ‘drug peddlers’, senior RAB officer Hasan said 400 bottles of Phensidyl, firearms and a sharp weapon were found on them.

Abhaynagar police said the RAB handed over the bodies, which has been sent for autopsies.
Replying to a query on the victims’ criminal records, OC Sheikh Gani Miah declined to comment without checking the records.
The victims have been identified as Abul Kalam, 47, Milon Kasari, 40, and Habibur Rahman, 38.
Police in Mymensingh have reported the death of a murder suspect, hours after his arrest, in what has been claimed as a shootout.
Emon was arrested on Friday in the murder of an auto-rickshaw driver the previous day in Nandail Upazila, said local police OC Ashiqur Rahman.
“Police had taken him along in a raid to arrest another suspect when his accomplices opened fire. Emon tried to escape and was caught in the cross-firing.”
He was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead, added the police officer.
Emon was accused of several other criminal charges, according to OC Rahman.
