Two police officers, facing charges of raping a woman for two days in Manikganj, have been arrested.
The accused – Saturia police Sub-Inspector Sekandar Hossain and Assistant Sub-Inspector Mazharul Islam were taken into custody in the early hours of Tuesday (Feb 12).
Earlier on Monday (Feb 11) night the victim lodged a case with the Saturia police against the two policemen leading to their withdrawal pending investigation.
Saturia police Inspector Abul Kalam Azad told Bangla Tribune that medical test on the victim to gather evidence of the rape was completed on Monday.
Following the rape allegation a two-member probe body, consisting of Additional Superintendent of Police Hafizur Rahman of Sadar Circle and Senior Assistant Superintendent of District Special Branch Hamidur Rahman Siddique, was formed to look into the incident.
According to the allegations, Sub-Inspector Sekandar Hossain borrowed Tk100,00 from a woman in 2014, promising to return it with interest. On Feb 6, when the woman went to the police station with her niece to meet with SI Sekandar, they were taken to a nearby bungalow.
Sekander and his colleague ASI Mazharul Islam separated the two women and locked them in two rooms. The younger woman was forced at gunpoint to consume yaba, and the accused took turn raping her.
The two women were kept locked in their rooms till Friday morning when they were thrown out of the bungalow.
