Khulna City Corporation BNP mayor candidate Nazrul Islam Manju in a press briefing in Khulna on Wednesday (May 16).Khulna City Corporation BNP mayor candidate Nazrul Islam Manju has rejected the election result on the ground of ‘large-scale vote rigging’ in the polls.

In a press briefing in Khulna Wednesday he said, there should be re-election in 105 centres as the ruling party supporters captured those and stuffed the ballot boxes with fake votes.

The Election Commission cancelled voting in three centres out 289 due to mass rigging.

Manju said, the law enforcing agencies were not active in performing their duties.

In the KCC polls held on Tuesday Awami League’s Talukder Abdul Khalek; BNP’s Nazrul Islam Manju; Islami Andolon Bangladesh’s Muzzammil Haque, Communist Party of Bangladesh’s Mizanur Rahman Babu, and Jatiya party’s SM Shafiqur Rahman vied for the post of mayor.

AL candidate Talukder Abdul Khalek won the Khulna City Corporation (KCC) mayor election by about 66,000 votes.

“The returning officer did not receive any call from us since morning,” Manju alleged.

“The massive rigging proves that without deploying army, no fair election is possible,” he claimed.

The polls started 8am Tuesday and as many as 148 candidates contested for councilors in 31 wards of the city corporation while another 35 vied for 10 reserved women councilor. The number of voters in the city corporation stands at 493,093.
