AL candidate wins KCC mayor election

Awami League’s mayor candidate Talukder Abdul Khalek has won the Khulna City Corporation (KCC) mayor election by about 66,000 votes.
He bagged one lakh 74 thousand votes while his nearest candidate Nazrul Islam Manju of BNP got one lakh nine thousand votes.
In the wee hour of Wednesday, Returning Officer Yunuch Ali announced the result at the Sonadanga Women Sports Complex.
This is the first time in Khulna that the city corporation election was held with party symbol.
The BNP candidate contested the election with paddy sheaf symbol while Talukder with boat.
In his reaction, Talukder thanked the local people to elect him with such a big margin.
As many as 148 candidates are contested for councilors in 31 wards of the city corporation while another 35 vied for 10 reserved women councilor.
The number of voters in the city corporation stands at 493,093.
