Valuables stolen from Takhurgaon Hindu temple

Thieves have stolen an idol as well as gold and silver from Thakurgaon's Govinda Jeo Mondir.
The theft which took place early Tuesday (Jan 15), police said.
Govinda Jeo Mondir, the largest temple of the district, is located at Govindanagar area of the district town on the bank of Tangon River.
Priest Sadhan Chakrabarty said that he locked and left the temple on Monday evening.
When he returned on Tuesday morning, he found the Ashtadhatu-made (eight metals) Krishna idol, half a bhori gold and ten bhori silver stolen.
Thieves, however, left other idols, Chakrabarty.
Sadar Thana Police OC Ashikur Rahman said, “Thieves might enter the temple after jumping off the wall as no one was there at night.”
Thakurgaon SP Moniruzzaman visited the temple.
“Raids are under way to catch the thieves,” said the SP.
