Seventh day RMG worker-police clash leaves 10 injured in Ashulia on Sunday (Jan 13).Ready-made garment (RMG) workers continued demonstrations and blockaded roads in Ashulia for the seventh day on Sunday (Jan 13), protesting discrepancies in the new wage structure.

During the protests, violent confrontations between the apparel sector workers and police have left at least 10 workers injured at Jamgora area on the Abdullahpur-Baipail highway on Sunday morning.

To make a pause over the unrest, at least fifty factories have been declared the closing for the day.

Additional police forces have been deployed in Ashulia on Sunday (Jan 13) to avoid sudden occurrence.The garments workers were started to pour into the Abdullahpur-Baipail road after 8am on the day. Later, police came to the spot and tried to disperse them. In retaliation, the RMG workers hurled brickbats at the law enforcing men which forced the police to baton charge over the workers. Police also used tear shells and water cannons to disperse the protesters.

Dhaka-1 Superintendent of Police Sana Saminur Rahman said, “Police dispersed the workers protests using water cannons after they made road blockades in the morning at Ashulia.”
“The situation is under control at the moment,” he said before adding, “Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to avoid sudden occurrence.”
