BGB officer ‘assaults’ magistrate at Savar

Executive Magistrate Rajibul Islam. PHOTO/FACEBOOKAn officer of the Border Guard Bangladesh has allegedly assaulted an executive magistrate at Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka during the apparel workers protests on Sunday (Jan 13).
The incident reportedly took place inside the Al Muslim Group Factory in Savar’s Ulail.
Executive Magistrate Rajibul Islam was assigned with a BGB team led by Major Rahmat, which was posted in the area.
According to witnesses, a BGB team was working led by Executive Magistrate Rajibul Islam at the industry in the Ulail area in the morning over the workers' unrest.
At one point of the ongoing protests, the BGB officer took Rajibul in a room of the factory. There he ordered BGB personnel to fire the unruly workers if they try to go out of control and later they might inform about the incident to the magistrate.
Rajibul became agitated over the BGB commander's command and got locked in an altercation with him. During their altercation, Rahmat tortured him physically, leaving critically injured.
Later, officials of the district administration rescued him and admitted to Savar Upazila Health Complex.
Savar UNO Sheikh Russel said the higher authorities have been informed about the incident.
