‘Robber’ killed in Kishoreganj ‘shootout’

An alleged robber and drug peddler has been killed in Kishoreganj’s Bajitpur Upazila in what the police described as shootout.

The incident was reported from Ujanchar Bilerpar area in the upazila’s Pirijpur union on early Friday (Jan 11), said police.

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Ashraf Uddin.

Police said, they took position at the area after being tipped-off that drug peddlers will gather at the place for trading narcotics.

Around 1.30am, police noticed 6 to 7 people at the scene and went to arrest them.

Sensing the presence of law enforcing men, they opened fire and in retaliate police fired back which triggered the shootout.

Ashraf Uddin died on the spot in line of fire while his cohorts were managed to flee from the scene.

A shot-gun, 5 rounds of ammunition, 2 machetes, 100 yaba pills and 15 bottles of phensedyl were seized from the scene. 

“The deceased was accused in robbery cases with the district’s Bhairab police and several other police stations in Narsingdi district,” said Kishoreganj Superintendent of police Md Shafiqul Islam.
