Five alleged war criminals arrested in Sunamganj

Representational ImagePolice in Sunamganj have arrested five fugitives on charges of crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.
Shalla Upazila police OC Md Ashraful Islam led raids at different areas of the upazila and arrested four among the five fugitives after 8.30pm on Wednesday (Dec 19).
The arrestees are 72-year-old Md Zubair Monir, 70-year-old Zakir Hossain, 73-year-old Siddiqur Rahman, and 72-year-old Md Tota Mia.
The other arrestee, Md Abdul Jalil, was arrested during another raid, led by Derai Upazila police OC Md Mostafa Kamal.
“The police caught the five accused after receiving tip-offs,” said Sunamganj Superintendent of police Md Barkat Ullah Khan.
According to the case dossiers, the five arrestees stand accused of crimes against humanity during the war of 1971. They were involved in looting, murder, rape and torching the houses of general people including the residences of the minority. The case was filed at International Crimes Tribunal in Dhaka.
