Satkhira-4 BNP candidate GM Nazrul Islam, a local Jamaat-e-Islami leader, has been detained from his residence.

Upazila Chairman Maulana Abdul Bari has been also held.

They were arrested around 2pm on Sunday (Dec 12), police said.

Shyamnagar police OC Abul Kalam said that GM Nazrul Islam was held on charges of violence.

Earlier, 62 persons have been arrested from across the district in a special police raid conducted between Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

Satkhira’s Special Branch Inspector Azam Khan said the arrestees have cases against them on various charges including violence and drug offences.
