BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir addressing a campaign rally at Bogra on Friday (Dec 14)The government wants to do everything in its power to foil the polls but we won’t back down at any cost, said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

His remarks came during a campaign rally at Bogra’s Shahid Titu Convention center on Friday (Dec 14).
In addition to his Thakurgaon-1 constituency, Fakhrul is contesting the polls in the Bogra-6 constituency instead of incarcerated party chief Khaleda Zia.

Addressing the BNP activists and leaders, he said, “Set aside your petty disputes and vote on Dec 30. Guard the polling stations so they cannot steal your franchise.”

For the Bogra residents, the BNP leader’s message was, “I am not here to contest the polls but represent Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman.”

“Awami League knows that they will surely fall if the polls are free, fair and credible. Hence the are attacking Dr Kamal, me and other opposition leaders.”

A scuffle broke out during the rally when Fakhrul calmed it down and called for the party supporters to stand united in asking votes for ‘paddy sheaf.’

The veteran politician said that the government fears Khaleda and hence has wrongfully imprisoned her even though the Supreme Court has granted her bail.
