Election officials in Patuakhli have revoked the nomination filed by former Awami League lawmaker Golam Maula Rony to contest the upcoming national election on the BNP’s ticket.
Rony, who joined BNP on Nov 26, was one of the party’s three picks for the Patuakhali-3 (Galachipa-Dasmina) seat for the Dec 30 polls.
Returning Officer and District Commissioner Matiul Islam Chowdhury cancelled the nominations of two BNP aspirants on Sunday (Dec 2).
The election officials, however, declared another BNP candidate, Hasan Mamun, eligible to contest the polls.
RO Chowdhury said, “Rony’s nomination was scrapped as he did not sign the affidavit while another contender Shahjahan Khan’s on the ground of loan default.
“They can appeal to the Election Commission in next three days,” Chowdhury said.
