‘Pirate’ killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘shootout’

ShootoutAn alleged pirate has been killed in Cox’s Bazar in what the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) described as shootout.
The incident was reported from the district’s Kutubdia Upazila in the early morning on Tuesday (Nov 20).
The victim is identified as Didarul Islam alias Moulvi Didar, 32.
“Being informed that a gang of pirates was taking preparation for committing robbery, a team of RAB conducted raid at Moddho Amjakhali area in Boroghop union. Sensing the presence of law enforcing men, the gang members opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back, triggering the shootout,” said Major Mehedi Hasan.

“After the incident, the bullet-hit body of Didarul was recovered from the scene,” added the elite force official.

“The body has been sent to Cox’s Bazar sadar hospital for autopsy,” he added.

The elite force official claimed that Didarul Islam is a listed pirate under the Home Ministry and thirteen cases were filed against him with Kutubdia and Maheshkhali police.

RAB said that they have seized seven fire arms, 20 rounds of ammunition and 9 bullet shells from the scene.
