Will negotiate on parliament seats in Ganabhaban talks: ErshadThe dialogue between the Awami League and Jatiya Oikya Front has failed says Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad before adding their Nov 5 talks with government will centre on negotiations over parliament seats.
“The Oikya Front went for the talks with several demands and that’s why it failed. We have no conditions ... My only demand is how many seats will we get,” he said while addressing a public rally in Jamalpur on Saturday.
“Our only concern is parliament seats sufficient enough to go to power,” said the chief of Jatiya Party, the opposition in parliament.
His wife Raushan Ershad, the party’s co-chairman, is, however, the leader of the opposition.
A former military dictator, Ershad now serves as the special envoy to the PM with the rank and status of a Cabinet member.
In a clear reference to BNP chief Khaleda Zia, he said, “I had to spend six years in jail without any reason and now the court have sentenced you to 10 years. You will not be released and your son will not be able to return.”
There are only two parties in the country now— the Awami League and the Jatiya Party, claimed Ershad before adding: “We want a free, fair and participatory election, where the people will be able to cast their franchises.”
