Railway slabs on Padma Bridge as a test caseAs many as eight railway slabs of Padma Bridge have been installed as a test case.
The slabs were installed on the 7F span on the area between Pier 41 and Pier 42 at the Zazira end on Tuesday (Sept 25).
An engineer of the Padma Bridge Project told Bangla Tribune, “If the trial installation goes successful these slabs won’t be removed. In case, any problem appears the slabs will be installed in alternative ways,”
Work on permanent installation will begin if the trial becomes a success, said another engineer, who wished to go unnamed.
Over 700 slabs have been built on the Mawa Construction Yard at Zaizira. Each slab is 2-meter long and 5.15-metre weighing 8 tonnes.
To date, five spans of the Padma Bridge, one of the largest infrastructure projects in Bangladesh have been installed on Piers between 37 and 42, making a total of 750 metres of the bridge visible.
