Police have seized 395 kgs of New Psychotropic Substance (NPS), a new kind of narcotic from a warehouse in Uttara, Sector 14.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) raided the warehouse on Wednesday (Sept 19).
The warehouse owner Jomul Islam Talukder and his aide Mahbubur Rahman were caught during the raid, while two of their accomplices managed to escape.
DMP Assistant Commissioner (AC) of Uttara Zone MD Kamruzzaman said, “We are trying our best to catch the escapees.”
The arrestees told police that the warehouse was used as a storage unit for a garments factory.
NPS is an illegal drug from Ethiopia, known as ‘khat’, that has recently found its way into the Bangladeshi black market.
The Department of Narcotics Control seized almost 700 kilos of the same narcotic in the last two months.
