Senior BNP leader Moudud AhmadA legal battle is not enough anymore to free jailed party chief Khaleda Zia, says senior BNP leader Moudud Ahmed.
"For the time being, we have to forget the legal process. The only way to free her from jail is to hit the streets," said the party's policymaking National Standing Committee member.
Moudud made the statement on Wednesday (Sept 19) in front of National Press Club during a human chain program by Diploma Engineer’s Associations Bangladesh, a pro BNP engineers platform.
He said that the upcoming programs will focus on the political future of the country, to get back the voting rights and restore democracy to the nation.
He called upon the entire nation to stand united in order to make sure that a fair election takes place under a polls-time government.
“Our legal counsels have exhausted all means to free the chairperson. However the government is adamant that she remain imprisoned,” said the senior party leader.
“The lower courts are completely under the government’s control,” he added, criticizing the government’s decision to hand over the operations of the lower courts to the President and Law Ministry.
He said that it was impossible to win against the lower courts, whose operations are obviously rigged by the government to ensure the BNP chairperson’s continued imprisonment.
