An 18-year-old has reportedly committed suicide in Dighapatia area of Natore on Wednesday night as he didn't get money to buy a smartwatch, his family members claimed.

The deceased is Rafiur Rahman Rafi, a student of computer science in Rajshahi Polytechnic Institute, said the OC of Natore Police Station Jalal Uddin.

It is learnt that Rafi bought a smartwatch by borrowing money from his friends. He got angry when his father denied paying the money. At one stage, Rafi committed suicide by hanging himself with the ceiling fan.

His family members recovered the body later from the room.

Rafi's father Rajab Ali said that after the SSC examination, Rafi became addicted to drugs.
