Police have detained Dinajpur Municipality mayor Sayed Jahangir Alam for anomalies in distributing rice under Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme which has been running to aid poor and destitute people.
He was held in the town on Sunday around 11:30am, the OC of Dinajpur Police Station Redwanur Rahim said.
Police sources said that Sadar Upazila Project Implementation Officer Altaf Hossain filed a case accusing Jahangir for giving 18.40 kgs of rice instead of government allotted 20 kg per person.
The mayor would be placed to court for remand, the OC added.
