Vehicle movement has become slow due to a heavy traffic jam on both sides of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.

Dhaka bound traffics are facing 22-kilometre jam from Hasanpur of Daudkandi to Sonargaon crossing while Chattogram bound vehicles are stuck in 20-kilometre jam stretching from Sonargaon crossing to Gomoti bridge in Cumilla.

Daudkandi police station officer-in-charge Abul Kalam Azad said, a truck laden with rod lost its control and flipped over on the road at Bhoberchar in Munshiganj on Friday morning causing two-hour halt in vehicle movement on the highway.

Gazaria highway police removed the car after two hours, Azad said. “We are trying to reduce the traffic jam.”

He said earlier on Tuesday there was a 32 km tailback on the highway and soon snowballed into a massive line of cars.

There’s a heavy pressure of vehicles due to Eid and we are trying to ease the jam, assured the police officer.
