Stocks flat as large-cap issues tumble

File photo shows a general view of the Dhaka Stock Exchange building.Stock markets have finished the session of the week flat as the major indices of the both Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges showed no significant rise amid lower activities of large-cap securities, reports BSS.
The benchmark index of the Dhaka bourse closed the day with 1.81 points up at 5,380.96. The blue-chip DS30 and Shariah DSES also followed the same trend with 2.67 points up at 1,896.49 and with 0.77 points up at 1,230.81.
The losers took a strong lead over the gainers as out of 349 issues traded, 161 closed lower, 131 advanced and 57 issues remained unchanged on the DSE floor.
The daily trade fell to 121.6 million shares from Monday’s 124.5 million shares. But, the day’s trade value at DSE increased to Tk 4.53 billion from Tk 3.78 billion of the previous session.
The major gaining issues were 1STPRIMFMF, SEMLLECMF, Runner Auto, Bangas and Standard Ceramics. The major losing companies were Al-Haj Textile, Eastern Insurance, Northern Insurance, Central Insurance and United Insurance.
JMISMDL topped the turnover list followed by UPGDCL, Genex Infosys Limited, Global Insurance and BSC.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with slightly upward trend with its major CASPI 6.63 points up at 16,477.60.
At CSE, 262 issues were traded. Of those, 97 closed higher and 113 closed lower when 33.4 million shares worth Tk 963.1 million changed hands.
