Bawani Textile Mills to be privatised

The agreements for the public-private partnership of Ahmed Bawany Textiles were signed on Tuesday (Jun 25) at a five star hotel in the capital in the presence of Textile and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi.The Ahmed Bawany Textiles Ltd in Dhaka’s Demra will be privatised soon under a public–private partnership.
The mill will be operated by Consortium of Tanzeena Fashion Ltd, which has already been given the Letter of Award (LOA).
The agreements for the partnership were signed on Tuesday (Jun 25) at a five star hotel in the capital in the presence of Textile and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi.
Textile and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi speaking at the ceremony on Tuesday (Jun 25)“Bangladesh is the first country in the world to undertake PPP to make the closed down mills operational again,” said Gazi.
He added that if these mills become operational again, new job opportunities will be created in the industrial sector.
The minister said that 636.38 acre of BTMC land was lying around at several business-friendly places and through the partnership they will be used productively which will profit the organisation, as well as increase the GDP and strengthen the economy.
He added that the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has already approved running 16 out of the 25 BTMC mills under the PPP.
