Dhaka International Trade Fair. FILE PHOTONeither the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) nor the Commerce Ministry has finalised if the president or the prime minister will inaugurate the 24th Dhaka International Trade Fair. According to tradition, the fair is opened by either the PM or the president on the first day of the year.
But this year, the election on Dec 30 has created some complication because many of the relevant ministers are also involved in poll time hustings.
The fair has been postponed from Jan 1 to Jan 9 though the chief guest has not been finalised as yet.
Starting from Jan 9 the fair will end on Feb 9.
Meanwhile, the president’s press secretary, Joynal Abedin, told Bangla Tribune, “We have not received any invitation in this regard as yet.”
Secretary of the Trade Fair Organising Committee Abdur Rouf told Bangla Tribune, “Usually, the fair is inaugurated by the head of government or the prime minister and we are working to that end.”
