Curtain to rise on Bangabandhu BPL Sunday

SAZZAD HOSSAIN/File PhotoThe special edition of the Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20, organized to mark the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, is all set to raise its curtain.
A grand opening ceremony with the participation of both local and Bollywood stars will be held at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Sunday (Dec 8).
The tournament proper, with the participation of seven teams, will however, roll on the field Wednesday at the home of cricket.
In the sidelines of the preparation for the ceremony at the center ground, the teams were found busy attending their initial practice sessions at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) academy ground Saturday (Dec 7).
None of the overseas players though are yet to join their respective teams.
It is understood that the overseas players will start reporting to their teams from Sunday onwards.
Bollywood superstars Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif are being seen as the main attraction of the ceremony that is going to last for almost five hours.
The program has been set in two parts with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina scheduled to officially declare the BBPL T20 open at around 7pm.
Bangladesh star singers in the form of James, Mumtaz and others will perform some of their greatest hits in the first part, while the second part will feature the entertainers from Bollywood.
The BCB meanwhile, announced satellite service provider company Akash DTH, the first ever Direct To Home service launched in Bangladesh by Beximco, as the title sponsor of the BBPL T20 through a ceremony held at the media center at SBNCS Saturday.
BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury and Beximco Communications Limited CEO Faisal Hyder were present at the logo unveiling ceremony.
