Bangladesh Football Federation vice president Kazi Nabil Ahmed inaugurated the women’s U-16 football training camp Saturday evening at Jessore Shamsul Huda Stadium.
Nabil, also the MP of the Jessore 3 constituency, encouraged the girls to train hard and bring laurels for the country in future.
He added, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina places a lot of emphasis on women’s sports. Under her patronization, the Bangladesh women are doing extremely well in sports. They are bringing glory for the country. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his father Lutfar Rahman both played football. Bangabandhu’s son, Sheikh Kamal, was also passionate for football.”
Addressing the women footballers, Nabil said, “You have come to Jessore for residential training camp, you are all welcome. All of you should train here for two months with a smile on your face. Star footballers will emerge from your group and it is you who will bring laurels for the country.”
He continued, “All of you know, recently, our women’s football and cricket teams have tasted success. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina provided them encouragement, and awarded them. All of you can play an important part towards women empowerment in the country.”
Nabil thanked UNICEF for assisting in holding the camp and expressed hope that they would continue their assistance in future.
FIFA Council Member Mahfuza Akter Kiron said, “A residential training camp for spotting talented women footballers is being held in Jessore for the first time. Eighty-three girls from 19 districts will take part in the camp.”
