Mushfiqur Rahim will miss the first Test match against New Zealand in Hamilton, scheduled to begin on Thursday (Feb 28), due to multiple injuries.
Mushfiqur's rib injury resurfaced during the second ODI, making him doubtful for the third ODI, in which he went on to feature despite scans revealing a broken rib. He also sustained two more injuries during the ongoing tour: a side strain and a wrist injury. Under the circumstances, he is not fit to feature in the first test against the host nation.
In fact, it’s uncertain whether he will be able to recover ahead of the second tests.
According to the team management, it will take around two weeks for Mushfiq’s wrist injury to heal, which means he won’t be cleared to bat until the first week of March. The second test in Wellington in slated on Mar 8.
Mahmudullah will lead the Tigers in the first test, in place of regular skipper Shakib Al Hasan, who is also ruled out of the test clash due to injury.
“Mushfiq is improving slowly. We won’t get him in Thursday’s match,” said Mahmudullah.
Hamilton test is scheduled to begin at 4:00am Bangladesh time.
