AQM Badruddoza ChowdhuryBikalpadhara chief AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury has urged the government to convene a special parliament session to amend the existing laws to ensure road safety.
Former president Chowdhury, who now heads a political coalition styled the Jukta Front, made the call on Sunday while speaking to media at his Baridhara residence.
“A special session of parliament must be convened to amend the relevant laws on road safety on emergency basis … we draw the attention of the president and the prime minister to take prompt steps to this end,” B Chowdhury said.
Chowdhury say the government has taken a “serious wrong step by unleashing its activists against the students”.
The students exposed that many vehicles and drivers of law enforcers and other public offices have no licence and valid documents. “We hope the government will take lesson from it and take steps to remove corruption.”
The former president said the laws relating to the transport sector need to be overhauled to restore discipline in it.
Speaking at the programme, Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna demanded resignation of Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan as he “is the main reason behind the chaos in transport sector”.
He urged the government to immediately accept the agitating students’ nine-point demand.
