Ruling party Awami League has fixed a target to complete its grassroots level council including districts, upazilas, unions and ward units.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader came up with this instruction in a secretariat meeting of Awami League's Central Working Committee (ALCWC) on Sunday (Jan 12) at the party’s president's Dhanmondi office.
However, it was the first meeting of the secretariat body of ALCWC after the national council on Dec 20 and 21. Most of the secretaries and deputy secretaries of the party were present in the meeting. Awami League General Secretary and Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader presided over the meeting.
According to party sources, Awami League issued a letter to all of its district presidents and secretaries on Jan 2 to complete the grassroots council by Mar 6.
Awami League has completed 29 district councils before its triennial national council. The party has 68 organizational district units across the country divided into 8 divisions, each division is operated by an individual organizing secretary.
After the meeting Obaidul Quader told in a press briefing: "We are going to complete our grassroots council before the starting of Mujib Year, which is scheduled to be celebrated on Mar 17."
Obaidul Quader also said that, ALCWC and Central Advisory committee members will go to Tungipara of Gopalganj together on Jan 18 to place floral homage on the grave of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, then a joint meeting of ALCWC and advisory committee will be held there.
