JP has held a meeting at at the party chief’s Banani office in Dhaka on Wednesday (Jan 8)The Jatiya Party (JP) isn’t opposed to the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in the upcoming Dhaka city polls slated for Jan 30, says Secretary General Mashiur Rahman Ranga.
“We are contesting the Dhaka city polls acknowledging the use of EVMs,” Ranga told media at the party chief’s Banani office in Dhaka on Wednesday (Jan 8).
“JP will not contest in an alliance in Dhaka North and South City Corporation polls,” he said.
“Alliance doesn’t exist in local government polls as it does in the national elections,” he added.
Claiming JP is performing as a strong opposition party, he said, “We are playing an effective role both inside and outside of Parliament to ensure the rights of the nation.”
However, JP doesn’t believe in swearing, howling or hurling files in Parliament to express objections, he added.
Condemning the rape of a second-year Dhaka University student, Ranga demanded stern punishment for the perpetrator.
“Rape crimes will decline if stern punitive action is ensured,” he said after bringing attention of the home minister and detective agencies to the matter.
