FILE PHOTO: Gono Forum President and Jatiya Oikya Front leader Dr Kamal Hossain.Convener of the Jatiya Oikya Front Dr Kamal Hossain has said that if needed, he will go to court to secure bail for imprisoned BNP chief Khaleda Zia.
He made the remarks at a media briefing on Tuesday (Jan 7).
“We will ask for bail as many times as needed,” said Dr Kamal.
“From the news printed in the media, we have come to know that former PM Khaleda Zia is gravely ill and we express profound concern over the deterioration of her health,” he said.
Calling for improved medical treatment for Khaleda Zia, he observed: “We demand her immediate release and want to say that the government has to bear responsibility for any untoward incident; we also condemn the dithering attitude of the government over her bail.”
He added that disregarding calls for better treatment for Khaleda are tantamount to breaching the constitution.
He also called for a report from a physiotherapist on Khaleda Zia’s treatment.
The judge got incomplete report and dismissed the case, which is unlawful, said Dr Kamal.
Oikya Front leader Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury said: “If the judges are without any moral values then we will have no other way but to launch a nationwide movement to demand the release of Khaleda Zia.”
In the unfinished biography Bangabandhu wrote: “Solitude is a crime it creates lethargy and is illegal.”
“Khaleda Zia is being kept in solitude,” said the Oikya Front leader.
BNP standing committee member, Dr Moin Khan, observed: “Khaleda Zia has been deprived of her constitutional rights.”
