BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was addressing a media call at the party chairperson’s Gulshan office in the capital on Sunday (Jan 5).As voters are not trained or accustomed with the complicated process of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), they prefer to vote on paper ballot, claims BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
“EVM isn’t a simple or understandable process for voters, it’s not voter-friendly,” Fakhrul said during a media call on Sunday (Jan 5) at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office in the capital.
“Voters can’t confirm their votes for the chosen aspirant, as EVM has no voter-verifiable audit trail,” he said before terming it as a “hoax”.
“The people have no confidence over the partisan Election Commission (EC),” said BNP senior leader Fakhrul.
“Therefore, the EC has no right to make an ex parte decision over using EVM,” he added.

On Dec 23 last year, the party’s Secretary General Fakhrul alleged that Dhaka city polls will be manipulated by defecting EVMs.
The Dhaka city polls are slated for Jan 30, where the EC will use EVMs at all polls stations.
