The BNP has announced its mayoral candidates for the elections to the Dhaka North and South City Corporations slated for Jan 30.
The party has picked Tabith Awal for the North while Ishraque Hossain for the South.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the announcement at a media briefing at the party chairperson's Gulshan office in Dhaka on Saturday (Dec 28).
He said the party is participating in the city corporation polls as "part of our movement".
On Friday, three high-profile aspirants of BNP submitted their nomination forms at the party central office.
Ishraque Hossain, son of the late BNP vice chairman and former mayor of undivided Dhaka City Corporation Sadeque Hossain Khoka, submitted his nomination paper seeking the party’s DSCC mayoral candidacy.
On the other hand, Tabith Awal, elder son of senior BNP leader Abdul Awal Mintoo, and former Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal president Asaduzzaman Ripon also submitted forms soliciting nominations as the BNP’s DNCC mayoral candidate.
