There is an indication that nayebe ameer of Jamaat Islami, Mia Ghulam Parwar, may become the next party secretary general.

Last Saturday, party ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman had a discussion on the matter with other leaders. It was learnt that Mia Ghulam Parwar might be declared as the new secretary general, according to Jamaat sources.
Party leaders say that like the new ameer, the new secretary general is also a post 71 generation person who is not accused of opposing the liberation war. So far, four senior leaders of the party have been executed for crimes against humanity and one died while serving a 90-year prison sentence.
Following discussions within the council, a unanimous suggestion was made to make Mia Ghulam Parwar the secretary general but the formal declaration would come a few days later.
Professor Mia Ghulam Parwar served as Jamaat’s assistant secretary general, ameer of Khulna, president of Khulna Chhatra Shibir and is known as a political activist without any taints. He is also a former MP.
On Nov 12, the Jamaat central council mentioned the name of Dr Shafiqur Rahman as the new ameer and he took oath on Dec 5.
The ameer will not take the oath of the new secretary general.
