Re-elected Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said there are lots of endeavors still remain undone as many challenges lie ahead.
“Sheikh Hasina, in her election manifesto, promised to give each family a job. We (AL) will fulfill it … For now, our main focus is on the perfect implementation of the grand programme on the occasion of the Mujib Year as well as the accomplishment of the Vision-2021 and the Delta Plan. These are some challenges,” he said on Saturday (Dec 21).
He was speaking to the media at the party chief’s Dhanmondi offices in Dhaka hours after ruling AL re-elected Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina as its president and Quader as the general secretary for the next three years.
Quader, who is the road transport minister, thanked party leaders and activists, especially chief Hasina, for giving him the opportunity to serve as the AL general secretary again.
“We have been elected unopposed. I am grateful to Sheikh Hasina for electing me for a second term,” he said.
The senior AL leader also thanked the party activists for making the 21st national council a success without any hassle.
Speaking on opposition, Quader said AL doesn’t consider its rival as weak and wants to strengthen the democracy.
“If they (opposition) want to bring out any political programme we want them to hold it,” he added.
Quader said the AL office sometimes came under attack but the party never launched a counter-attack.
“What we have done we did it to protect people’s lives and properties,” he added.
