Law enforcement agencies have taken foolproof security measures at Suhrawardy Udyan as well as the entire city to avoid unpleasant incident centering the Awami League’s 21st national council.
All attendees of the council are being scanned before entering the venue while the passers-by at Shahbag and Doel Chattar are being checked if they act suspicious.
According to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), around 1,500 members of it are on duty coinciding with the ruling party’s council.
“We have enforced a stringent security vigil [in the capital]. Three-tier security measures have been set at five entrances of Suhrawardy Udyan. Law enforcers also checking the people manually along with metal detectors,” said DMP Ramna Zone Deputy Commissioner Sazzadur Rahman.
Plainclothes police officers are surveilling around the venue and army troops were deployed to ensure the safety of party chief Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Armoured personnel carrier (APC), water cannon, wreckers and fire service are also kept stand-by for emergency near the gathering.
