Bangladesh Awami League`s Joint General Secretary Abdur RahmanThere would be some qualitative changes in politics through the upcoming Awami League (AL) conference, said party joint general secretary Abdur Rahman. 'We will build an AL which is harmonious with the changes happening in Bangladesh.
The senior AL leader said this on Sunday (Dec 15) during a conversation with Bangla Tribune.
He said: “through the ongoing judicious organisational process, transparent, capable and considerate people will find A place in the party.”
Abdur Rahman was initiated into politics through the Chhatra League of which he became a general secretary. He was elected MP from the Faridpur-1 seat twice.
He said: “Through the upcoming conference, the party will be reshuffled to meet the demands of the time; party will run the government and those who are MP’s will answer to the party. Also, grass root level leaders and workers will have to be valued.”
People who are widely accepted by workers should be in leadership positions, he said and added: “If a person has both party and government duty then it’s difficult to perform both tasks properly; therefore, a person with party position will not get a government post and vice versa.”
In this regard, he alluded to Indian parties: BJP and Congress.
Saying that the PM has begun a purge keeping the best interest of the country in mind, he added: “In the current flow, those who made sacrifices for the party will have to be rewarded; if the impact of the purge is not felt in the party, a sense of frustration will take shape.”
Speaking about Khaleda Zia’s release, he mentioned: “It’s an issue for the court and AL has nothing to do in this regard because the cases were not lodged by the AL government. Embezzlement charges were proved against Khaleda Zia and the court gave her a sentence.”
Talking about the NRC imbroglio in India he said: “This is India’s internal matter; it was passed by the public representatives of that country and AL has no comment on it.”
This issue has not soured relation between India and Bangladesh and if complications arise then we shall resolve them amicably like we did in the past, he stated.
