Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader says he will serve as the second man of the party for another term if party President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wants.
“I never told that I am not interested to serve as the general secretary again … My health is relatively better now. I have no problem to continue as the secretary if the leader (Hasina) wants to … I have no problem either if she wants to bring in someone new,” he said on Monday (Dec 9).
Quader, who is also the road transport minister, was speaking to the media at his office in the Secretariat in Dhaka.
The senior AL leader said no change would come in the party’s top leadership.
“Though she [Hasina] wants to retire from politics, but the party won’t let her go,” Quader said.
Asked whether he finds it hard to juggle between tasks at the party and the Cabinet, he said that the ministry's operation was "now on a track" while the party activities, too, has "gained a momentum."
"I don't find it to be a crisis managing both the responsibilities," said the senior Awami League leader.
