The BNP says it will write to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina seeking the details over deals signed with India during her recent visit to the neighbouring state.
Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the decision before the media on Saturday (Nov 2) after a meeting of the party's policymaking National Standing Committee.
"The standing committee has agreed to write to the prime minister. We will seek details of the deals she signed with India during her recent visit to the country," he said.
The senior BNP leader added that the party will also write to the Information Commission for details of the agreements in line with the Right to Information Act.
Bangladesh signed seven bilateral agreements with India, aiming to deepen ties following talks between Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi in New Delhi last month.
The deals inked by the nations include memoranda of understanding (MoUs) on the establishment of a coastal surveillance system, cooperation in youth affairs, a cultural exchange programme and the withdrawal of 1.82 cusec of water from Feni River by India under a drinking water supply scheme for Tripura.
Agreements on the use of the Chattogram and Mongla ports for movement of goods to and from India and the renewal of a line of credit committed by New Delhi to Dhaka were also signed along with an MoU between Dhaka University and the University of Hyderabad.
