The BNP has said it received the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) clearance to hold a rally for Friday (Jul 15).
On Jul 15, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced that the party would hold a rally in front of its Naya Paltan to press the demand of releasing Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Speaking to Bangla Tribune, BNP Assistant Office Secretary Taiful Islam Tipu said, “A delegation, led by the chairperson’s advisory council member Abul Khair Bhuiyan, met the DMP Commissioner at 11am and received the DMP’s verbal clearance for the rally.”
A former prime minister, Khaleda is now behind the bars after a special court convicted and sentenced her to five years' imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on Feb 8 this year.
