Singer Shafin Ahmed has joined the HM Ershad-led Jatiya Party.
He joined the Jatiya Party on Thursday, when he met party Chairman and Special Envoy to the PM Ershad at his residence in the capital’s Baridhara, said a media statement.
“Jatiya Party is preparing to float candidates in all 300 constituencies in the 11th parliamentary election. But, it can change the polls-strategy if BNP participates in the election,” the statement quoted former military dictator Ershad saying.
The former singer and bass guitarist of popular band Miles was a policymaking member of the National Democratic Movement (NDM), formed by Bobby Hajjaj, son of controversial businessman Moosa Bin Shamsher.
Shafin, the son of singer Feroza Begum and composer Kamal Das Gupta, had announced his candidacy for the Dhaka North Mayor election with the backing of NDM.
Hajjaj, who served as an adviser to Ershad, launched NDM in April last year when he announced that Shafin was a ranking member of the party’s council.
In 2015, Hajjaj filed his nomination for mayoral race hoping to get the backing of Jatiya Party, but withdrew soon afterwards.
