In the city corporation elections in Rajshahi, Sylhet and Barishal, the twenty party alliance will have a candidate. In Rajshahi, BNP candidate Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul is carrying out the campaign without Jamaat. This has stirred curiosity among political observers in Rajshahi.
Talking on the matter, Rajshahi city Naebe Ameer, Abu Mohammad Selim, said: “in Rajshahi, our workers can’t even stay in their homes; how can they take part in the campaign of BNP candidate Bulbul?”
Referring to Sylhet, the Jamaat leader said: “we are not worried about Sylhet; we gave support to 11 BNP candidates in 12 city corporation elections and hope they will stand by us in one.”
Talking about his party, he said: “Jamaat does not have a symbol or registration and our work is being hampered by the administration.”
We are living in constant fear of arrest, he said.
He also stated that in Rajshahi, Jamaat has accepted BNP candidate to represent the alliance.
Earlier, Jamaat put up a poster declaring Siddik Hossain as an independent candidate but later, at the order of the centre, did not pick up the nomination paper.
But Jamaat candidates will be competing in the city corporation election, for male and female councillors, he added.
