The opposition parties in Bangladesh are provided with the best security benefits among all South Asian countries, says senior leader of the ruling party Obaidul Quader.
Quader, a cabinet member, came up with the remark in response to claims made by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir that he was suffering from lack of security.
He was speaking to the media at a programme organised by Mahila Jubo League on the occasion of National Mourning Day at the AL headquarters at Bangabandhu Avenue in Dhaka on Tuesday (Aug 27).
He said that he failed to understand why opposition leaders complained of suffering from a lack of security under circumstances where they can freely travel to any part of the country and make offensive remarks about the government and the prime minister.
Claiming that there were no bars on the oppositions to hold rallies and meetings, the minister said that the government was in no way threatening the opposition and it was BNP’s own fault that it was unable to wage any movement.
Regarding the Rohingya issue, Quader said that those who were trying to cause trouble over the matter were being kept under government surveillance and action would be taken against them accordingly.
The government was actively engaged in finding a solution to the Rohingya issue so that the displaced community could go back their motherland, he added.
